The Hollywood heartthrob said he had been approached to play the MI6 character about eight years ago, just before Daniel Craig was chosen to play Bond, back when he was prepping for 'X-Men 2. Hugh Jackman would be the second Australian to take on the character, with George Lazenby playing the spy in the 1969 film On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

The X-Men star Hugh Jackman said if his good friend Daniel Craig stepped aside then, and only then, would he seriously consider the role.

When asked if he would like to reprising the role after Spectre, Daniel Craig, 47, told the UK magazine: 'At this moment, no. I have a life and I've got to get on with it a bit. But we'll see.'
